There is one reason and one reason only: sexualization. The issue is that the changes being made don't clarify any confusion in the story, nor do they provide any supplementary information that uplifts the story in any way. I understand making alterations in order to adapt an anime to a manga - that isn't an issue. Needless to say, this is blatant departure from the anime is an insult to Sakura Quest fans and an insult to the artistic vision of the show This is completely lost on the manga, which prefers to sexualize the characters (especially Shiori) as a means of retaining viewership. The Sakura Quest anime works to retain viewers through an exceptional story, relatable characters, and, above all else, realism. One of the Sakura Quest anime's defining traits is that it doesn't sexualize its characters.
Unfortunately, this manga is an incredible disappointment. I had high hopes for this manga since it's an adaptation of my personal favorite anime. I recommend that you read the first chapters and don't give up with this manga, it is worth the time. The point of the manga is to showcase the experiences many people will have in life on a regular daily basis and the hard work needed to complete a goal no matter how simple it is. Which leads to the biggest complaint about SQ, which is that some could consider the plot boring and tedious, but those who hash out that insult often times fail to see below the surface level. all, their goal was creating a manga that could be compared with our real life. They focused on simplicity and it fits the themes and tone of the story greatly.
They're ordinary people with some remarkable skills yet plagued with the same problems and fears that we all have. The characters could be considered the strongest part of this manga. A connection that creates a story strong enough to leave a lasting impact on the reader. It shows us that we don't need big fights, superpowers, or insane drama to like a story. Sakura Quest is a manga that shows us the simplicity of life.
